Start with the items leaving, not the garage doors
A two-car garage is not automatically a two-car-garage-sized load. You might only be removing a few boxes and an armchair from one corner. Or you might have a single bay stacked from floor to shelf. Before comparing prices, identify the removal items and separate them visually from the belongings that stay.
Take one wide photo from the open garage door, then photograph the rear corners and any piles hidden behind furniture. Mention large or heavy items individually. This gives the crew more useful information than a description such as “half a garage.”
Use cubic yards as a planning tool
A cubic yard is a cube measuring three feet on each side. Our calculator multiplies an assumed garage width and depth by the floor coverage and average pile height, then divides cubic feet by 27. You can adjust the sliders to better describe your own pile.
For example, items covering 25% of a 20-by-20-foot garage at an average height of two feet occupy about 7.4 cubic yards before loading. That is a rough estimate of the pile, not a measured truck load. Gaps between items, stacking, and furniture shape can change the actual volume.
Know what can change the quote
Dense material is different from light household boxes. A heavy workbench, connected appliance, narrow passage, or long carrying route can add handling that a volume slider does not capture. Tell the crew about these details before scheduling. Do not assume that hazardous materials or construction debris are included in an ordinary household cleanout.
